Is Derealization a Form of Psychosis?

Question by : Is derealization a form of psychosis?
I’ve been experiencing some pretty severe derealization for the past couple of days due to my anxiety disorder. Now I’m wondering…is derealization a form of psychosis? I’m freaking out because I’ve been worried about developing Schizophrenia or psychosis. I need to know whether or not I should be concerned about this derealization. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think it’s a sign of psychosis necessarily. It could be that you’re just very stressed with anxiety and derealization (or depersonalization, dissociation) can be your mind’s way to “cope” with the stress. I could be very off here but that is how I perceive it. I’ve dissociated too when under a lot of stress. I didn’t remember much of what had happened during that period. I think, as I said, that it’s just your mind/body’s defense mechanism. I would definitely ask a professional about this though, I don’t know everything about mental health issues, I can only speak from experience. Best of luck to you, dear!!!!
