Pediatric Neurologists?

Question by Wouldlike2know: Pediatric neurologists?
Does anyone know. or have heard of any excellent Neurologists in the Northern RI area? I am a very young mom of a son who is turning 5 and exibiting signs of ADHD it runs in both our families. But like any parent, of course i dont want to put my young child on meds, But if he needs it, i want to make sure all avenues have been looked it like Aspergers (mild autism) ADHD .. ETC.. So i only want to use meds as a last resort. and ways to teach me to calm him etc.. without the use of meds. If any parent or caregiver has been down this route or is a medical professional please advise with respect thanks so much!

Why do you need to see a neurologist for this? Psych docs usually deal ADD/ADHD in my area. Both of my kids have been tested and each time all I did was ask the doc for a referral for my kids to be tested and got the appointment set up at the clinic that tests for ADD/ADHD here. Once the test was done a psych doc came in to talk to me about the test results and what the best treatment options were etc. My sons test came back as definate ADD while my daughters test came back negative for ADD but she carries a diagnosis of ADD tendencies. I did medication for my son for a while as I felt he needed all the help he could get at the time. Since ADD is permanent and not something that will go away I am not opposed to meds to help just as people with depression use meds to help treat their condition. My son is no longer on meds as he wasn’t taking them unless someone watched every morning to be sure he really swallowed the pill but he is in high school now so I don’t push the meds if he isn’t going to take them. You first step should be to see your regular doc and get testing set up and then take things from there. Also it will help tremendously to get rid of all the toxic cleaners and laundry products etc that you use in your home and start using non toxic cleaners. Many problems including things as common as asthma ar partially triggered by a lot of the toxic chemicals in household cleaning and laundry products. Good Luck.
